A party in the park on Saturday was just what Amanda VanHall needed to register to vote for the first time in her life.

The Florida State University Vote Coalition held the “Frenchtown Getdown” to sign up voters in advance of Monday’s registration deadline for the Nov. 4 election.

VanHall, a 20-year-old from Tampa who was visiting a friend at FSU, said the event at Carter Howell Strong Park was inspiring and made it easier to register.

“If I’m sitting at home going, ‘Man, I really need to register to vote,’ I’m just not going to go out and do it,” she said. “But since I’m here, it’s easily accessible to do it.”

On Monday, the last day to register, people still can sign up at the Leon County Supervisor of Elections Office, 315 S. Calhoun St., from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Through Monday night they can register at the main Leon County Library, 200 W. Park Ave., or at New Leaf Market, 1235 Apalachee Parkway.

People also can send a completed application at the Post Office before the last mail pick up on Monday, said Supervisor of Elections Ion Sancho. Any registered voter can change their addresses up until they cast their ballot on election day.
