Area students have shuttled residents to early voting sites. They have sponsored local debates to ensure people on campus are engaged. And, they have held or scheduled marches for their respective presidential pick or university.
All to illustrate students in the area are more involved in this year’s presidential election than with the ones in 2000 or 2004, a message confirmed by Monday’s early voting numbers and by CIRCLE, a nonpartisan based Massachusetts research organization.
More
than half of the early voters who came to vote at the Leon County
Courthouse Monday were students. According to Ion Sancho, county
Supervisor of Elections, 1,404 came out to vote that day. Then, about
800 FAMU students marched to the courthouse to vote early.
“We’re seeing an interest from the young voter that I’ve not seen in my lifetime,” Sancho said.
