Education for Veterans
November 24, 2007
To the Editor:
Iraq and Afghanistan veterans deserve true gratitude from the United States. Ribbons and bumper stickers are not enough. The forward-thinking Senators Jim Webb and Chuck Hagel (“A Post-Iraq G.I. Bill,” Op-Ed, Nov. 9) are right to make education accessible and affordable to returning veterans.
Skyrocketing tuition costs can decimate a veteran’s income. Reviving the G.I. Bill would stabilize families and ease soldiers’ transition to civilian life.
Congress should open the doors of opportunity to the men and women who sacrifice so much and get so little in return.
