Trainings & Workshops

In addition to amplifying the voice of students on the local, state, and national level, USSA believes in building strong student leaders to win concrete victories on student issues.  As a result, USSA offers a series of trainings and workshops, designed by student organizers and community members, to help strengthen and develop student leaders.

Grassroots Organizing Weekend (GROW)

Developed in conjunction with the Midwest Academy, the GROW offers pieces to train student leaders in:

  • Understanding relations of power
  • Meeting facilitation skills
  • Public speaking skills to move your audience to action
  • Developing strategic coalitions
  • Recruiting volunteers and raising student leaders
  • Holding effective accountability sessions
  • Strategically choosing an issue

Electoral Action Training (EAT)

Recently revamped with Campus Camp Wellstone, the EAT offers pieces to train student leaders in:

  • Building vote coalitions to develop your organization
  • Running effective Get Out the Vote work
  • Expanding voter outreach and identifying audiences
  • Messaging vote work to continue up-swing in youth voter turnout
  • Using vote work to identify new student leaders

Conferences

USSA also holds two conferences, the National Student Congress and Legislative Conference & Lobby Day, where student leaders from around the nation congregate work to decide and organize around the federal barriers to higher education.
