Delegation Recruitment
RECRUITING A DELEGATION TO LEGCON
The United States Student Association operates on the belief that the people directly affected by a problem should be the ones to determine its solution. The experiences of students from communities that have been historically excluded from higher education, whether due to gender, race, class, sexual orientation, disability or experience, are vital in crafting campaigns and policies to expand access.
The same factors that keep many students out of college can often work to exclude them from student government associations and other traditional university power structures. To combat this, USSA members have voted to refer to diversity guidelines when forming delegations to attend USSA conferences.

All delegations of 3 or more must have at least 1 W and 1 POC that cannot be the same person. Delegates may fulfill multiple roles except the delegate fulfilling the WOC guideline may not also fulfill the POC or the W guideline. (W=woman; WOC=Women of Color; POC=Person of Color; Q=Queer, QOC=Queer of Color; NT=Non-Traditional; SD=Student with Disabilities; V=Veteran; G/P=Graduate or Professional, INT=International Student) *1 of which is a woman of color. Any campus who counts G/P students as part of enrollment for determining delegation size should include a G/P student in their delegation.
Commitment to Equality
USSA has a deeply-rooted historical commitment to equality within the organization. The Diversity Guidelines ensure that USSA gatherings are broadly inclusive for students nationwide. The guidelines also encourage campus student government associations to fully incorporate and represent the diverse student body at their campus and at the national level. Beyond any commitment to diversity, recruiting a diverse delegation sends a powerful message to our elected officials that we represent a number of different communities on our campus and in turn strengthens our lobbying power.
