USSA

Trainings & Workshops

In addition to amplifying the voice of students on the local, state, and national level, USSA believes in building strong student leaders who win concrete victories on student issues. As a result, USSA offers a series of trainings and workshops, designed by student organizers and community members, to help strengthen and develop student leaders.

Electoral Action Training (EAT)

In collaboration with Campus Camp Wellstone, the EAT trains student leaders on:

  • Building vote coalitions to develop your organization
  • Running effective get out the vote work
  • Expanding voter outreach and identifying audiences
  • Messaging vote work to continue the up-swing in youth voter turnout
  • Using vote work to identify and recruit new student leaders

Grassroots Organizing Weekend (GROW)

Developed in conjunction with the Midwest Academy, the GROW trains student leaders on:

  • Understanding relations of power
  • Strategically choosing an issue
  • Recruiting volunteers and developing student leaders
  • Developing strategic coalitions
  • Public speaking skills that will move your audience to action
  • Holding effective accountability sessions
  • Facilitation skills

Conferences

Every year USSA hosts two conferences, the National Student Congress and the National Grassroots Legislative Conference & Student Lobby Day. Both conferences are open to member/non- member SSA affiliates and campuses. Our conferences are the best opportunity for students leaders from across the country to come together to, build relationships, share best practices, become better organizers, and build the national student movement. Feel free to contact our Board of Directors for questions about their conference experience.
